Introduction: The images on these pages provide a brief summary of some of the
photographs I have taken during my travels over the years. One of my goals during my travels is to get away from the "civilized" world. I have, on more than one occassion, gone three weeks without seeing anyone other than the people I was travelling with. The two best ways of achieving this are: a) travel off season (March and November work well for me), and b) go north -- way, way north. Technical Data: Most images are taken with Nikon cameras, and lenses ranging from 17 mm to 500 mm. The images were scanned with a Nikon Coolscan or an Epson scanner, and minimally processed in Adobe Photoshop. Some of the newer images are taken with either a Mamiya 645 or a small digital point and shoot camera.

| Arctic. I once read somewhere that there isn't anyone who goes to the Arctic twice - you either hate your first trip so much that you never want to go back, or you enjoyed it so much that you go back many more times. With a total of 9 trips, I guess I fall into the latter category. It tends to be beyond the ability of both words and pictures to describe the experience, but that won't stop me from trying. |

| Southwest. One of my recent "discoveries" has been the American Southwest. I find that there is a great deal in common between the High Arctic, and the Southwest - the starkness, the beauty, the sense of aloneness, and the subtleness. I find that with a little work and planning, it strikes a nice balance between accessibility and privacy. |

| Asia. I have only been to two locations in Asia - Nepal, and Bhutan. Both of these offer stupendous scenery and a rich and varied culture. Both countries are very similar - nestled in the highest mountains on earth, with scenery that is out of this world, with people that are very friendly. Both countries are very different - Nepal gets over 250,000 tourists per year, while the year that I went to Bhutan, they weren't sure if they would hit 1,500 for the year. Bhutan is much less "westernized", retaining much of its rich and ancient culture. |

| Miscellaneous. There's more to photography than travel. Although travel is an effective way of awakening the creative juices, there can often be great opportunities in your own back yard. Most of these images were taken within a 5 hour driving radius of home base - some in my own basement. |
